Claim Management Services, Inc. (CMS), a Third-Party Administrator of group health plans (TPA), based in Green Bay, Wisconsin has received complete SAS 70 Accreditation. SAS 70 is also known as the "Reports on the Processing of Transactions by Service Organizations" and was developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. CMS is one of less than 100 TPA’s that have received SAS 70 Accreditation nationally.

The SAS 70 Audit is an audit of the internal controls of a TPA's services. Generally accepted auditing standards require that auditors performing audits of employee benefit plans of over 100 participants obtain an understanding of the Plan's internal control system. If a Plan uses the services of a TPA, those services are an integral part of the Plan's internal control system. In order to gain the required understanding, the Plan auditor can either perform the required audit procedures on the TPA's accounting system or use a SAS 70 report that provides the Auditor with the information needed.

The audit was performed by McLellan Consulting Services of Avon, Connecticut (MCS). MCS commented that "The SAS 70 Standards are a difficult hurdle, and CMS cleared the hurdle with flying colors. Health Plan Sponsors should feel very secure in trusting their program administration to them." Then MCS went on to note "CMS is easily one of the most well-run TPAs of the 120 that MCS has reviewed."
